Departments

Programme in Agriculture (are designed with the general aim of training broad-bases and practical (farmoriented) agriculture graduates who can adequately provide required solutions in the various problems facing crops. Livestock and fish production as well as forestry problems. All the three programmes have common 100 and 200 levels courses. From 300 leve, Forestry and Fishery students separate to their individual programmes. The Agricultural students will have common courses up to 300 level. At the 300 level, they will break into options of their choices among the following: (a) Agricutural Economics & Extension, (b) Animal Science and (c) Crop & Soil Science Options. To ensure adequate exposure to farm practice, the 400 level is devoted to farm practice with minimal teaching

The B.Sc. Geology degree programme is anchored on a broad-base curriculum in science with an intensive dose of fundamental knowledge and laboratory skills in core geology, an in-depth concern for the environmental and social consequences of geologic hazards and activities, an exposure to entrepreneurial and management principles and practice as well as competences in communication and computing in line with the global objectives of Salem University to properly serve its immediate community, the nation and the world.

Introduction Biology is a comprehensive centre of cutting edge research and teaching in the universities, as it serves as the cornerstone for Biological and Medical Sciences. It equips and furnishes the students with information on life sciences and thereby prepares them for the challenges of lives in their various disciplines. In addition, the research and strong commitment to excellence in teaching provide a broad, rigorous and innovative curriculum to students in the department.

In order to make the graduates global leaders, the department collaborates with other departments and colleges across the campus including department of chemical sciences, department of Physics, department of Geology, department of Mathematics and College of Information and Computer Technology. The students are advised to be conversant with the Salem University Handbook for Transformation Academic Revolution (TAR). The major concern of the department is to strike a balance between academics and moral standard, and also to release our global leaders as global transformer to their generation.

Relevance of Biology Biology has vast areas of application which include Bioinformation, Biotechnology, Botany, Ecology, Endocrinology, Entomology, Ethology, Food Science, Forensic Science, Genetic Counselling, Herpetology, Ichthyology, Immunology, Biometry, Mycology, Nematology, Ornithology, Parasitology, Zoology and many others. As a result of this graduates of Biology have a wide range of employment opportunities.
