Prof Silas Sunday Dada, who has been the Pioneering SUL DVC, named winner of the NMGS/AMNI PETROLEUM/PROF MO OYAWOYE AWARD for the year 2012. The NMGS/AMIN/Oyawoye Award is sponsored by AMNI International Petroleum Development Company Ltd (AMNI) in honour of Prof MO Oyawoye, FNMGS, the first African Professor of Geology and a renowned petrologist. The Award is open to any hard rock geologist of any nationality who has made significant contributions to hard rock geology of the African continent.
The prize is a gold medal and a plaque. The Award started in 2003 with a winner emerging each year but up till now; none has won it twice. The current recipient of the Award is a Prof of Applied Geology, pioneer Dean of the College of Natural and Applied Sciences. He was appointed to these positions after over 36 years of professional contributions including field and laboratory practice in mineral exploration, teaching, research, consultancy services and a strong background of high level exposure and training in applied sciences, curriculum development and administration.
